Dream Story - Part 6

We met up again the next week at the cafe. We ordered cupcakes, they had sparkly pink icing. We talked about how our life was going. How our subjects and exams were. What we had got for Standard Grade. What our hopes were for the future. He wanted to be a doctor. He was very good at science so I could see him getting there.
"Have you tried working in a care home or something to see if it is something you really want to do?" I asked, swirling my coffee round.
"No. That's a good idea, thanks."
I said I wanted to be a freelance photographer.
"Wow, can I see some of your shots?"
"I take pictures of everything I do, write it down and put it up on my blog. For instance these cupcakes."
"Wow! I'll have to check that out," he seemed shocked.
"Why don't you try working for a photographer to see if you really like it?"
"Alright. You do yours and I'll do mine. We'll come back later and talk it through."
"Deal," we shook hands, he smiled at me.
I decided to meet up with all my girl friends and have a girl's night in. We all had brought movies. We voted on which one we wanted to see. We ended up with Sliding Doors. We all ate popcorn and candy floss. We huddled up on the sofa with duvets wrapped round us and cuddly toys to cuddle for when it got scary or sad. We would all pull up the duvet so we couldn't see then. It was fun. There was me, Shelly and Patrice.
Next week we met up again. Freddy said that he had not enjoyed it at all.
"I hated it. I don't know what else to do with my life. It was so horrible seeing all those people who were just going to die. It was really hard to talk to them. I don't think I could tell someone they had cancer or something like that," he looked really worriedly at me with big blue eyes.
I just wanted to pull him towards me and hug him but I stopped myself, "I worked for the freelance photographer. It was brilliant, I loved it! I got to go round town taking pictures of lots of different things that made the town look good for a leaflet. It was fab!" my eyes glistened as I talked animatedly.
"I'm glad you liked it but what am I going to do?" he looked so sorrowful.
"You could do something more technical like to do with cars?"
"No, I don't like all that stuff. I find it boring."
"Um, let's see. You could... do just about anything you like to be honest. You have really good grades! What do you want to do in your heart of hearts."
"I'd like to be a hairdresser," he stared at me very seriously in a way that made me want to melt.
"WHAT!?" I was so surprised, "Are you serious?!"
"Yes, I want to be a hairdresser. I am going to sweep up hair in a hairdressers."
A lightbulb turned on in my brain, "You could work for Rog's mum! I'm sure she would gladly give you a job. That's perfect!" I pulled him up out of his seat and hugged him senseless.
"Great!" he looked squeezed.
