Roger is doing really well working at Hair Gloop. I have decided to arrange a party. I am going to have the house to myself when my parents go away at the weekend so I can do whatever I want! Today I am trying out a really cool red lipstick I got. I kind of want to impress Freddy at school. I also get to meet up with Roger today, yay! He says he has a great idea. I can not wait to find out what it is.
Roger said that we could make it a fancy dress party! Everyone has to dress up as their favourite fairy tale character. I am trying to think of who I could be. He is going to be prince charming of course. I wonder what Freddy is going to be?
I emptied all of my earrings out on the table to get an idea for my costume. They spilled everywhere. All the different colours. I told all of my friends on Bebo that I was going to have a party on their pages. I was so excited!
I decided to buy pizza, sausage rolls, crisps, marshmallows, cupcakes, pineapple and cheese on a stick, fizzy drinks, punch and we were allowed some alcohol as long as we had a lot of carbs so I put some in the punch.
I have decided to be a wicked witch so I got a hairband with a little, mini witch's hat on it, stripy, purple and black tights, a tattered, sparkly, black, cobwebbed dress, some high heeled, pointy, black shoes with buckles and a broomstick with a cuddly toy black cat on the end.
I was on the phone to Shelly and she said she was going to dress up as Rapunzel. She said Patrice had told her that she was going to be Snow White.
"So am I the only one who's going to be a wicked witch?"
"Yep, looks like it. Why didn't you choose something more attractive?" asked Shelly.
"I don't know. I just liked the idea of being a witch. You knoow, like when you are little at Halloween."
"Ri-gh-t," she sounded like she had no idea what I was talking about.
"Everyone can bring their own favourite music playlist so we can play them all."
"That's a good idea," Patrice seemed to find it surprising that I could come up with one of these, "Shall I bring a CD then?"
"Yep. I chose Natasha Bedingfield because it has got, 'Frogs and Princes' on it."
"Can I bring Lily Allen, 'The Fear'?"
"Sure, I love that CD!" I did not know she had such good taste in music.
"Patrice will probably want to bring Gwen Stefani, 'If I Was A Rich Girl.'"
"Fine, cool," it was getting better by the minute.
Roger said he would bring Prince for obvious reasons, "Do you think I'd look good in tights," he questioned me.
"Erm..."
"I guess that's a no. I might wear them anyway. Can Oscar come?"
"Sure! What is he going as?"
"He is going as my princess, Cinders."
"What?! In full drag!"
"Yes, baby. He will be and he will be gorgeous! He has one of those huge wigs and everything!"
"Wouldn't it be better if you were both the ugly sisters!" I cackled, (practising for being a witch).
"Cheeky! Actually he looks quite pretty in a dress."
"OK, I'll take your word for it. What music are you bringing?"
"YMCA and Take That, 'Shine.'"
"Cool!"
I was on the phone to Freddy.
He told me, "I'm bringing Black Tide."
"What are you going as?" I was very curious.
"I'm not telling you, it's a surprise!"
I put on my owl necklace. I was ready for the party that night. It was going to be big. I knew that. The first to arrive was Patrice and Shelly. Shelly's mum had given Patrice a lift. I had decorated the house with pink curtains. I had scattered different things from fairy tales around the room. There were glass slippers and a pumpkin from Cinderella. There was a red hood and a basket from Red Riding Hood. There was a pea from The Princess and the Pea. There was a frog and a ball from The Princess and the Frog.
I had a big long table across one side of the room. In one corner there were some chairs and a big area for dancing next t the stereo. There were arrow signs pointing to the toilet and a golden roped barrier across the bottom of the stairs to make the message clear that you were not allowed up stairs.
It looked great.
They looked great but Shelly kept tripping over her blonde Rapunzel wig. Patrice had a cute little black bob, she had painted her face white, put on bright red lipstick and had a fab little Snow White dress.
"I like your outfits, girls," I complimented them.
"Thanks, your's is nice too," shelly told me.
"Yeah," Patrice added in.
Next to arrive was Roger and Oscar. Roger entered first and had his pantaloons on with his daring quiff and cheeky smile. Followed closely by Oscar who was a sight in powder puff pink with a huge, beaffant wig and a proper, old-fashioned dress with corset, strapless and with huge skirts. Under those huge skirts you could just see peeking out high heels in shiny silver. His face was covered in pale make-up with a fake beauty spot and coral lipstick.
"Love the decor, babe," Roger gave me a fake kiss on each cheek, very gay.
Oscar quickly followed suit as he didn't want to wreck his make-up. I think somehow Oscar has managed to make Roger act more gay - if that is humanly possible. He has got the hand and everything now.
Next up was Freddy. He was a goblin in green! He had a mask on that was green with a big, hooked nose. He pulled up his mask to give me a big hug and kiss me on the cheek. He opened up his arms and smiled before he hugged me. Then behind him came a fiery red-head.
"And this," he proclaimed to the nation with his hand outstretched towards her, "Ginger."
Of course. named after her hair.
"My new girlfriend!" the bombshell dropped.
"I'll, just - get - some more drinks," I ran off to the toilets to sit and cry.
Roger followed me, "I'll help her. Those bottles can be quite heavy," Rog motioned trying to heave up a huge bottle of water, much bigger than I have ever seen.
"Kitty," he called through the door, knocking on it.
"Leave me alone!" I whimpered defiantly.
"It's not that bad. She's nowhere near as pretty as you."
"You are just saying that!"
"No, it's true! Since most people don't seem to know this I think I should tell you that gay guys can tell which girls are hot and which are not!"
"So is she quite ugly then."
"No-o. She's quite pretty actually. Very pretty. She's got that fair goddess look about her."
"Oh! That doesn't help," I put my head in my hands.
"So, does that mean you'll come out now?"
"No! Never!"
"Alright then. You asked for it. Get away from the door."
"What?!" I stepped back, "Roger!"
He ran forward and hit the door with his shoulder. He broke the lock and it swung open.
"Alright, I'll come out now!" I tried to fix my make-up in the mirror.
My mascara had run, "You could have told me that a couple of minutes ago. It would have helped a lot you know."
"i know. Sorry about that. My mum will kill me."
"Oh. I don't think she'll even notice that with what she'll have on her hands."
"What?" I peered round the doorway of the kitchen below him.
There were tons of people in the house. People I had never seen before in my life. Then I noticed some of the faces.
"They're from my Bebo page! They must have seen the messages and all decided to come as well. Oh no!"
"That's an underestimate!"
Some of them were chucking a vase back and forth.
"Now, put that down!" I was like piggy in the middle.
The boys chucking it were all laughing. There were some other lads with a crate of beer getting drunk. Some girls were getting pissed on alco pops and there was a gang taking shots of vodka off of the coffee table. Next I thought I'd see people snorting coke! More and more people were spurting through the door.
I ran over and slammed it shut.
"Let no one else in the house Roger. OK?"
"Sure."
Someone had smashed the TV. The barrier to upstairs was broken. They had crazy string bottles and were spraying it everywhere. Someone was spraying it in Ginger's hair.
"Hey, stop that!" Oscar was standing up for her.
I felt kind of betrayed but at the same time relieved that someone was doing something. I controlled my breathing and headed upstairs. There were people kissing in every room!
"Get out!" I yelled at them all, one after another.
That seemed to do the trick. Apart from in the bathroom where there was a queue of people waiting to be sick. There was one over the toilet with someone holding her hair and another in the bath.
"Out!" I screamed, nearly in tears.
I ran back down stairs to Roger.
"What are we going to do?" I was desperate.
"Everybody out!" shouted Freddy, standing on the table.
Everyone ran for it. Freddy could be quite scary when he wanted to be. He jumped down and reassured ginger by putting his arm round her and pulling the last bit of crazy string out of her hair. He ran his fingers through her hair and kissed her. It broke my heart every time she was near him. I could not take it any more.
"Right, let's get this place cleaned up," Freddy could be quite a leader when he wanted to be.
Oscar and Roger started hoovering and dusting. Putting things in the bin.
"We can't do anything about the TV but we can fix just about anything else."
Patrice and Ginger had the horrible job of cleaning up the sick in the bathroom. Shelly was checking the bedrooms upstairs were OK. Freddy and I were getting rid of the party plates and putting the rest of the food in the fridge.
"I'll just tell my parents I had a few friends over and I bought some food. Um, we were doing a bit of dancing and-"
"And someone elbowed the TV," Freddy interrupted.
"Then someone's arm would be hurt, that doesn't work."
"So, we were playing on the games console and someone's remote went flying into the TV! That happened all the time in the papers!"
We both laughed with relief.
"She'll still want to kill me but it won't be as bad."
He tripped and fell forward. We were very near each other. Our noses touched. I could feel his presence. I looked down. I blushed. I looked up. Closed my eyes. My lips parted. I pulled away. Turned my head.
"You've got a girlfriend," I whispered.
"I know," he held a bit of my hair and let his fingers drag along it until he had let go at the end.
Our noses touched again and we parted. We both pretended we were brushing ourselves off.
We walked back through to where everyone else is with our hands in our pockets, looking down casually like nothing had happened.
When my parents got back they were very mad about the TV. They grounded me for a month. Imagine what they would have done if I had had no time to clear up after the party! Freddy said he would love to meet up with me once I have finished being grounded. We are going to go to this great hill with daffodils on it.
I could not wait. It would be bliss. Being with him in the sunshine of the Summer. Laughing. Enjoying ourselves. We had decided to have a picnic. I was bringing the food he was bringing the rug. I would make egg mayonnaise sandwiches, bring strawberries and lemonade. I had some left over party cups with balloons on.
I could not wait. I planned to meet up with him. I would sneak out when my parents were busy watching Saturday night TV together.
"Do you want to watch this with us love?" Mum asked.
"No thanks Mum. I'm going to do some homework in my room."
"Alright then. See you later," she replied.
"See you," I answered.
I heard my dad say as I walked up the stairs, "She's a good kid is that one."
"I know. Do you think we are being too hard on her?" Mum answered.
Oh, if only they knew.
We met and it was better than I imagined. Like a fantasy. We lay on the tartan rug that was slightly itchy under my palms. He picked a daffodil and gave it to me.
"It's as sunny as your smile."
"Aw. Don't!" I waved my hand in the air.
We drank and we ate till we were full. We fed each other succulent, scarlet strawberries.
"I don't know if I have ever had a better girl friend. Do you think we will always be this close or will we grow apart?" he asked sincerely.
"What? You mean you never think we'll be more than this!"
"Well, no!" he laughed.
"Do you not know?!"
"WHAT?!" his eyes opened, annoyed.
"That I love you!" my voice was strangled, "I loved you ever since I split up with Sam."
"Oh right! So I was just second best, was I!"
This was all going so wrong, "No! I never loved him. Not like I love you," my voice went lame.
"What?!" he did not believe me, he walked away.
"Wait! How can I prove my love to you?!" I thought I sounded like a character in Shakespeare.
He turned to look at me with a stare I had never seen before, "Does this really mean that much to you?"
"Yes!"
I ran over and kissed him. When our lips touched a tingling sensation rippled through my whole body. He cupped my face with his hands. I had my fingers in his hair. I moved my hands down. My fingers touching his neck. I wrapped my arms around him. He moved his hands down my shoulders onto my back, he reached my waist and stopped.
"Freddy!" it was Ginger.
We separated quickly.
"You are supposed to be grounded I heard!" she looked really spiteful, "She ran up to Freddy and pulled his hair, "And you are supposed to be my boyfriend!" she spat in his face as she spoke, her face was full of hate, "How could you do this to me?!"
"I wasn't trying to do anything to you Ginger!" Freddy was angry.
"I love him!" I cried, tears coming to my eyes.
One ran down my face, "Oh yeah?!" she sneered, "She grabbed my hiar and forced me down onto my knees, "Will you still love him when he leaves with me.
I stared into his eyes, tears dribbled down my face as rain started to fall. My hair was drenched. My make-up started to run. This was happening too often.
"Let go of her!" he called.
"No! Not until you tell her you don't love her!" she kicked me in the stomach.
I bent over, coughing up blood and groaning in pain.
"Alright! I'll say it. But only if you leave her alone!"
"Fine. Go ahead then," she let go of my hair.
I fell to the ground. My hands sunk into the cool, wet grass. My jeans were soaked. I fell forwards and tried to breath. Wheezing.
He looked at me, his voice trembled, I looked up through my hair, "I don't love you," he told me.
I heard no regret in his voice, just hurt and shame.
"Are you happy now!" he screamed hoarsely.
"Yes! Yes, I am! I will tell your parents Minny and I never want to see you two together ever again!"
"Don't count on it!" I croaked, she turned to look down on me.
Malice in her eyes could have melted metal.
She grabbed my chin, "You will pay!"
She left in a run.
"Minny!" he ran over and knelt by me, cradling me in his arms.
He called an ambulance. The police arrived. We reported her. I was sent to hospital to be checked over.
"She'll be alright love," the paramedic tried to say comfortingly.
He travelled in the ambulance with me.
My parents arrived to see me.
"What did she do to you!" my Mum cried as she ran over to hold my face.
She cradled me in her arms, consolingly.
"This - this boy has been nothing but trouble! Ginger told us what you have been up to! You are grounded Minny!" my dad raged, turning on Freddy.
He was holding my hand.
"Dad! Why are you listening to her?! She bet me up! She's a psycho!"
"You are never allowed to see this boy ever again! Do you hear me?!"
"Yes Dad," I mumbled.
He kissed my hand goodbye and left, "I love you," he called.
"I love you too," I was calling out for him.
I wished my parents would understand.
I told Rog the whole story on the phone.
"No! That is so unfair!" I could not believe how gay sounding Oscar had got him.
His mum was not OK with him being gay. She had disowned him which was really sad. So he had gone to live with Oscar in their own flat. He had cried about it but Oscar and I had given him hugs and told him we still love him. So hopefully he will be alright. How could someone's mother do that to them?
"I'm going to sneak out to see him."
"Are you sure?" he asked.
"Definitely."
"Well, isn't it a bad idea. I mean you already got in trouble for seeing him. What will happen next?"
"I don't know, they'll send me off to boarding school or something!" we both laughed.
I met this girl called Missy when my parents sent me out for pizza. She worked there. She is from the other side of town.
"Hello Posh Girl, what are you doin' 'ere. It's not your side o' town," she had big, hooped earrings and dreadlocked hair up in a ponytail.
"It's the edge and I'm getting pizzas for my parents."
"Ooh, little miss goodie two shoes are we!"
"No, I'm grounded," I was getting uncomfortable, I held my hand.
"No worries, sis, I'm Missy, who are you? What you get in trouble for then, right?"
"I'm Minny. I snuck out to meet up with my boyfriend. Well, he wasn't then and his girlfriend turned up and bet me up. she made him say he didn't love me. She told my parents I snuck out and now I can't see him."
"Man! What a, grr, do you want me to mess her up for ya?!"
"No! No! No way! Thanks though."
I wondered why I had just told this girl I had never met all about me. She made a fist and I was scared she was going to punch me. I flinched. She chuckled, very heartily. She pushed her fist towards mine.
"That is our gang's hand shake."
"Woah! I do not want to get involved with gangs!"
"You won't. Don't worry! You'll just be mates with me, aye?"
"Yeah," I smiled.
We met at the blossom trees. They were beautiful. Petals were falling. We kissed amongst them. His touch felt like velvet. His lips were so soft. I wished it would never end.
We lay under the trees afterwards.
"I've got this new friend called Missy. She's cool."
"Hey, isn't she in one of those gangs?"
"Yeah, she calls me posh girl!" I laughed, he joined in.
We tumbled down the hill, rolling on top of each other. I landed on top of him. We kissed, his arms around me. I felt so safe in his arms. Like nothing could touch me.
