We sucked the cream off each other's fingers and ate the crunchy pastry.
A month later Nathan tried to bake me a cream pie. It went terribly wrong and was all burnt black. So we headed out to a cafe and got a slice to share. It was lovely. We fed each other. The spoon was all gloopy with cream and coconut. It got all clogged up. I lapped it up joyously just as much as him.
A month later he pushed me on the swing.
"Wee!" I cried, "Higher! Higher!"
"You're like a little kid!" he laughed.
"Ha ha!" I called.
By the third month we were curled up in a rug by the fire at his house. We drank a hot cocoa with cream on top. It got stuck to my nose! He pushed it off with his finger back into the drink. We snuggled up together and cuddled.
We watched a scary movie and I hid in his chest at the extra gruesome bits even though I was not frightened. He smelt so good.
On the fourth it was cold and snowing. We were dancing at his great aunt's ball. I had a big, silky dress. He had a smart dinner jacket. It was all posh and old-fashioned. We drank glittering champagne! It was magical. We had learnt the waltz together that night. After a lot of fumbling, falling over and standing on each other's toes.
By the fifth it was November. We ate toasted marshmallows over a roasting fire while we were out camping in the woods. We huddled up together in our rug. We twiddled our toes together to keep warm. We had thick, itchy slipper socks on.
For Christmas he bought me a bunny! It was so sweet and cute. It made me smile. :) I got him a silk tie and squooshy cream. He put on the tie and looked very handsome. We ate strawberries with cream squished all over them. we laughed and sang that Christmas. It was bliss.
In the afternoon he left to be with his family. We had invited Roger over to share it with us. Since the problems with his mum and Oscar heading back to Australia to see his family Roger had no where else to go. we had crackers and party hats and lame jokes. Turkey, veg, cranberry sauce, dumplings, stuffed ducks, mashed potato and roasties. We sat round the telly and watched Doctor Who. We 'Whoed' at each other all night. Very funny.
The next day Nathan phoned me. he had dumped me. I was terrified - for myself. Roger cuddled me and tried to make me feel better but it was no use. So he took me shopping we had lots of Xmas money from family so we bought a lot of glittery and shiny shoes! I had glittery, he had shiny. We bought shirts and tights, trousers and boot leggings. it was very fun. We hadn't had a time like that in ages.
"Remember when the car broke down?" I remembered.
"Oh, yeah! That was so funny!"
"Funny! You looked like you were going to cry! Your 'precious car'!" I was holding up t-shirts from a huge bargain box.
"Ha ha!" he had jeans against him, looking in the mirror at them.
Our favourite song came on in the shop, 'The Fear' by Lily Allen. We danced away. Boogying our heart beats faster. We started a mad tango. Then a waltz. the reminded me too much of Nathan. A bitter taste came to my mouth. It was sick from my throat. I collapsed onto the floor. Sitting, I cried my lungs out. My heart creaked and squeaked with pain. He rubbed my back like I was a baby to make me feel better. I imagined it was Nathan. Then I shook my head out of it.
We headed to the milkshake parlour. I shook my strawberry one up so much the bubbles fizzed everywhere. All over the shop's floor! The owners shouted at us and made us leave. We could not stop giggling.
"Oh, if I'd have known how fun it was getting over Nathan with you I'd -"
I started crying again, "-Oh, sorry love!"
He hugged me up, sounding very girly, he hop, skipped and jumped, holding my hand all the way to a jazz club. For some reason we did the twist!
